In order to effectively prepare its students for careers in logistics, supply chain, and warehousing industries, the customer, a community college, sought to add a new course to its workforce development offerings. The college secured a grant to cover the cost of equipment to develop a pre-warehouse training program that would expose students to advanced data capture and inventory management technologies in use.
Because the customer was building all new coursework from the ground up, they needed expert guidance from an experienced team to select a comprehensive suite of tools and technologies to stand up the program. Grant stipulations also added time pressure to the requirement to submit a competitive proposal, in order to secure funding in time to launch the program as planned.
Upon their selection as the program partner, the Barcoding team applied their Process, People, Technology approach to recommend a comprehensive solution for a theoretical inventory management environment.
The solution integrated essential software, hardware, and IT services, including Barcoding’s IntelliTrack® Consumable Inventory bundle, mobile computers and label printers from Barcoding partner, Zebra Technologies, appropriate item and location labels, and Barcoding’s GoLiveTM and StayLiveTM services.
With the help of Barcoding’s #SupplyChainGeeks and the team’s GoLive and StayLive support, the college established a mock warehouse setting that enabled them to launch their program for future professionals in logistics and supply chain. Powered by the Barcoding team’s solution, the new warehouse environment enables students to learn inventory management principles and practice relevant activities such as picking, packing, printing labels, cycle counting, and more — while gaining experience using industry-leading solutions.
Students at the college can now earn certifications that prove their capabilities and experience, giving them a competitive edge in the job market, while prospective employers in supply chain and logistics can look to the college as a source of well-trained job candidates.
